The opportunity to fly around the world attracts many of us to the idea of becoming a flight attendant. Along with the chance to travel, flight attendants have a unique opportunity to build long-lasting relationships, improve their “people” skills and learn how to save lives. Are you planning to pursue a career in the aviation industry? Read on to learn how to become a flight attendant.

Becoming a Flight Attendant: What to Know

Before we provide advice on training and the requirements for all flight attendants, we first recommend pausing to consider a career in this industry. Although flying around the world may be enticing, the primary role of a flight attendant is to ensure the safety of all passengers while providing a high level of customer service. From the moment your passengers step foot onto the airliner, it is your job to keep them comfortable and safe. And to keep others safe and comfortable, one should be secure and confident themselves first. And after such a mental preparation, there are other tests, including the one mentioned at The Check People before you can successfully become an air hostess.

Is becoming a flight attendant the right move for you? Before you pursue this career, we recommend making sure that you can answer “yes” to the following questions.

  • Do I enjoy spending long periods of time in a crowd?
  • Would I pass a pre-employment drug test?
  • Would I pass a criminal background check?
  • Do I have the ability to sell products/services for my airline?
  • Am I comfortable in tight spaces?

Physical Requirements

The majority of airlines have a height requirement. You should have the ability to reach overhead bins. Of course you cannot be too tall as headspace in an airliner is limited. It is also important to consider that flight attendants must fit comfortably in their seat during take offs and landings, so body width must be considered.
